Entries are invited to create a Show Garden at the West Woodhay House Garden Show of 2013, which we are delighted to say has been sponsored by Moore Blatch Solicitors. The Theme for 2013 will be:
“Bold and Brilliant”
The interpretation of the theme is up to each designer, as we wish to keep the instructions to a minimum to give each entrant a free hand, but we hope to see some great interpretations of this theme, with bold colours and brilliant ideas. You may wish to take inspiration from the surrounding landscape or create an entirely self-contained garden – the choice is yours. The Gardens are to be judged by a team of leading garden design and horticulture experts; if you would like to enter and have not already been approached please contact Nigel Dyson.
We will present all entrants £300 towards the cost of their Show Gardens, on completion of each Garden, and payable during the Show weekend. Entrants may also contact Commercial sponsors for help and assistance.
For the current list of entrants please go to the foot of this page.
Some general information and housekeeping.
Access to the site for landscaping will be available from 3rd May May 2013 for entrants to start working on their Gardens, but entrants are welcome to come and look at the Garden and the intended site for our Show Gardens from January – this will afford you the opportunity to discuss arrangements with Pete Jackman, Head Gardener at West Woodhay, and an appointment should be made by contacting the Estate Office.
The sizes of the plots are, 6 meters x 6 meters, and the Gardens are to be built either on a membrane or above ground on sleepers.
The sites will be separated from the next garden by at least 1 mtr DEAD ZONE enabling entrants to build fencing etc.; post and ropes will keep the public 1 meter from the front of the Show Gardens.
The Gardens must be completed by 10 am on Friday 14th June, when Judging will take place; we hope that presentations to the Winning Show Gardens will take place live on BBC Berkshire, time and place to be advised.
Entants are requested to contact Nigel Dyson to view the sites in advance of the show, to to advise if they need power for a Water Pump, and to let us know when they would like access to the site.
The sites need to be cleared by Saturday 22nd June after the show, and the site re-instated to its original condition.
