The Church The House The Gardens Accommodation

The current village consists of West Woodhay House and Estate, St Lawrence's Church, and a number of other dwellings totalling forty or so in all. The House was built in 1635 but the majority of the other existing buildings date from the end of the nineteenth century - the Village Hall, pictured below, is dated 1899.

As a village West Woodhay may look initially like one where time has not moved on much in recent years, but in reality this village has developed and changed like any other village, following the needs of its "Estate" and other  employers.

Recorded history of this village starts with one Sewald de Oseville in 1204; it is likely that the existence of the manor predates this by some time, though it does not feature in the Domesday Book. Please look at the "House" section of this site or the West Woodhay village site for a little more of the history of the village.
